29 Sep European Languages Day
In Gruffalo, the children made French and Italian flags to celebrate family links within the class.
Elmer Class learnt how to say and write their name in Ukrainian with Tanya. They practiced saying days of the week, colours and animal noises!
In Paddington, the children learned Spanish. They learned how to say ‘hello’, ‘what is your name?’, ‘my name is …’ and ‘see you later’.
Children in Wild Things were given a challenge to learn some Welsh by a class of year 3 children in Wick, in the Vale of Glamorgan. They were given 3 conversational sentences to learn and then set the challenge to learn the numbers 1-10. Some of the pronunciations were difficult, but they worked together and did some great paired conversations. They recorded themselves counting to ten, to send back to the children in Wales to prove that they had succeeded!
In BFG, the children learnt some Italian with Raya’s mum Emma. They practiced greetings and discovered the Italian names for foods they love and a few they don’t! Later, they put their new language skills to the test by designing menus for their very own Italian restaurants, serving only their favourite dishes. Buon appetito!
