06 Oct Poetry Day
To celebrated National Poetry Day, Children were invited to bring in their favourite poems or poetry books. This year the theme was ‘Play’.
Gruffalo Class have been learning 2 poems ‘Leaves are falling” and ‘Mice’ which we are hoping to perform at our Harvest Festival.
Elmer Class have explored the poem ‘My Magic Telescope’ by Sean Taylor and ‘Oh Dear!’ by Michael Rosen. We wrote our own magic telescope poems, shape poems and went on a rhyming word hunt outside. We listened to poems, practiced our Harvest Festival poem and were very impressed by Gabe’s rendition of ’Tyger Tiger’ by William Blake!
This week Paddington Class dived into poetry, inspired by Puddle by Edward van de Vendel. We splashed into the theme by creating our own muddy puddles and whipping up tasty “treats” in the mud kitchen! The children enjoyed playing rhyming games before using the outdoors to gather ideas for writing their very own nature poems.
The highlight was performing! Some children chose to perform the class poem Puddle, whilst others performed their own poems. The children showed such imagination, confidence and joy in their performances. Well done, Paddington poets!
Wild things class had fun playing with words. We wrote our own compound noun question poems inspired by the poem by Michaela Morgan.
For National Poetry day BFG have focused on performance poetry. They have learnt how to use their voice and movements to show emotions and used this to perform ‘Heard it in the Playground’ by Allan Ahlberg.
