15 Sep Stone Age Foraging Adventure
This week, the year 3 and 4 children stepped back in time to experience life as Stone Age hunter-gatherers on an exciting foraging walk around Rode.
Armed with pots and bags and their curiosity, the children explored the local area in search of wild fruits and plants that might have been found thousands of years ago. Blackberries were a firm favourite, with plenty of juicy ones ripe for picking! The children also looked out for other natural foods that Stone Age people might have foraged, using their senses and knowledge to imagine what life might have been like in prehistoric times.
Back at school, the foraged fruits were carefully washed and prepared. The children helped peel and simmer the mixture, filling the classroom with the mouth-watering smell of cooked berries. To complete their Stone Age treat, the children will taste their delicious fruit compote alongside hearty oatcakes, just the kind of simple, nourishing food our ancestors might have enjoyed.
Well done to all our little foragers!
